Why It's Tough For Our Generation To Care Or Get Involved With Politics

I am somebody who likes to think I'm pretty decently educated as to analyzing the politics in our own country, as well as the rest of the world. I read different media outlets, watch videos, read different texts, etc. I feel like I know a good amount.

The truth is, I have no idea.

Voicing an opinion about any sort of political situation now-a-days is basically like throwing your own body into a pit full of cheetahs that are starving and have been eyeing you up for hours. You say one thing, and then BAM! You have 3 different people pointing out every little flaw in your statement and why they think so. I put up a Facebook status the other day saying my phone was broken. Next thing I know I have a massive 6 person political debate going on in my comment thread.

Everything now is so polarized, and so bipartisan, and so hateful and mean. I know it isn't this easy, obviously, but why can't we just use common sense to figure out a lot of our issues?

Does it not concern anybody that we are the only world power and major country that doesn't provide universal healthcare to our citizens? Why is that a privilege and not a right? Oh let me see because people think that's socialist.

What about getting an abortion? If you don't want one just don't get one. It's simple. Also, it's funny seeing a stage full of men debate on what a woman should do with her body, as if it's their decision to be making.

Oh it's because of religion, that's right. Well guess what:

I'm sure most of these make me sound like a die-hard liberal. That's fine if you think that, but I like to think I align with the "common sense" party. I hate politics, I just can't seem to distance myself from them. A lot of people my age either hate politics or just really don't care. That really is such a shame because we live in such a free country that's based off of participation of the American people to make their own decisions. Not a lot of other countries can do that. But the fact that we don't have much of a voice because we aren't billionaires, we don't own companies, we can't all graduate from an Ivy-league law school. It's discouraging for our generation. We see a bleak future.

I know some of the issues I pointed out above are not even the tip of the iceberg of the political world. Those are just a few social issues. On top of that there's a plethora of foreign and domestic policy and economic topics to be discussed. Those are just some of the basics. It doesn't seem like we can figure them out any time soon, though.

Maybe it's time for a political revolution.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
