When I was a senior in high school, I wanted nothing more than to be completely independent. I wanted to handle all of my academics, live on my own, and only rely on myself. The following reasons are why I was wrong to want to only rely on myself and why I am so happy I have my parents to fall back on.
1. They know me better than I know myself
This past week, I have been really focused on trying to decide on what my future will hold. It is time to start thinking about editing four year plans and after I changed my major, I have some extra room and after some ideas tossed around in my own head, I went to my parents and they helped me decide because they know what is best for me.
2. My mom is my best friend
We have come along way, but my mom has become my best friend. She is always there to talk about anything. She helps me with academic decisions, what laundry soap to use, and how to let my stress go. She is teaching me to let go of things I cannot control and leave them in God's hands. Her love and compassion keep me strong.
3. Dad knows everything
Or he sure seems to. While we don't have as emotional as a relationship as my mom and I do, he helps to teach me right from wrong. He supports me completely even if he doesn't understand why I'm doing what I'm doing. He helped me find my faith in God and will continue to help me strengthen my relationship with Him.
While it always used to seem that my parents were always in my business when I didn't want them to be, they never gave up. They knew that I needed them to be my back bone even when I didn't think I did. I miss my parents a lot and look forward to the time I get to spend with them.
