When I first thought of writing a story on best friends, I was trying to narrow down exactly whom I wanted to write about. Of course we all have a lot of friends, but how do you decide whom exactly is your “best friends.” And then I realized that as I thought about my life, I have different best friends in all the different places in my life. Is this a bad thing, to have more than just one main best friend? After much consideration, I realized that it is more than okay to have multiple best friends. It is not that one is more important than the other by any means; they each play a special role in your life and hold a dear place in your heart.
When thinking back on life, the people I would consider to be my best friends five or 10 years ago are no longer really my best friends. We have sadly drifted apart and moved onto other places in our lives. This does not mean that they did not have a huge impact on my life and mean something so special to me. People will come and go, but your true best friends will always leave a lasting mark on your life.
Today, we are all so busy and have so many different aspects to our lives that it makes sense that we would have multiple best friends. For example, you have your best friends at work, who are those people who deal with the same craziness you deal with everyday at work. You have your college best friends, the kids who sit on the struggle bus with you as you manage classes, homework, and mean professors. You have your home best friends, those people who are with you day in and day out during your home life, and who have been with you through it all. This only barely hits the categories of best friends we can have! And like I said before, each and every one of them is so important and special in your life.
As I sit here and think about my best friends, I am overjoyed with happiness. I cannot even begin to thank them all for everything they have done for me. I definitely could not make it through life without each and everyone of them. To my work best friends, I think I would have gone insane by now without you all. You help to keep me calm when I am dealing with the stress of crappy bosses, long hours, and not so nice guests. Also, thanks for always being down to get fattening food with me after work, and for letting me vent to you about all my life problems. To my long time best friends from home, thanks for sticking with me through the years. We have been through it all together and share some of the most amazing memories. And finally to my Disney best friends, I do not know what I would do without you all. You gave me hope and showed me there is a great big world out there waiting to be explored. You all have helped to create some of the best moments in my life and for that I am forever grateful. I cannot wait for the adventures to come and I know we are going to have the most magical time together.
So yeah, it is okay to have multiple best friends. I certainly do and I love each and everyone of them to the moon and back. They fill my life with happiness and I am so blessed for that. If you have just one best friend or 12 best friends, cherish them and love them forever. “A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside,” and we should all live by the words of Winnie the Pooh and never go a day without our best friends by our side.
