You have finally made it to senior year. All of those all-nighters and general education classes have finally brought you here. It’s a year of finales; final classes, final exams, final goodbyes.
Except for you. Because you are not graduating. Your four-year plan turned to a five-year plan.
While everyone around you is gearing up for graduation, you are still registering for classes at 6 a.m.
But don’t feel bad. Here are some benefits of not graduating on time.
Real world? Who needs it!
By not graduating on time, you are avoiding the inevitable for a little longer. While everyone is looking for full-time jobs and career moves, you can still eat dining hall food and go out on a Wednesday without being judged. The world is a scary place. Nobody needs to rush adulthood like that.
You can get a head start on your career search!
When you graduate in May, the job market is flooded with the other thousands of newly graduated prospects. If you graduate a semester late, in December, you might have an easier time finding a job, because the influx of applicants is much smaller.
You have more time to figure yourself out.
College has this funny tendency to make you question everything you think you know about the world and yourself. Having a little extra time before you graduate means you get to spend longer figuring out what makes you happy, and you can enter the workforce with more confidence and experience.
