I’ve been coming across all kinds of articles regarding the zika virus. The articles state that a specific mosquito is spreading the virus by a simple bite. I remember hearing on the news about the zika virus accidently getting out from a testing lab here in America last year some time. I don’t recall what news channel I heard it from but I do remember thinking, right mosquitos accidently got out of a lab where they are being studied, because they were infected with zika virus. Then it was on the news again stating that the mosquitos came from individuals traveling from South America to North America. Scary for all of us Americans, because we are used to being bitten at night by mosquitos no one considered a day time virus carrying mosquito biting. This is all so crazy and really scary at the same time.
Now almost a year later the news is stating pregnant women who get bit by one of those infected mosquitos will have high risk for fetal brain defects and or contract microcephaly ( a condition in which a baby's head is significantly smaller than expected, often due to abnormal brain development, according to google.com). If the baby is born at term as the baby grows the infant will most likely have eye defects, hearing issues and problems while they are growing. What sucks most, there is no type of shot or antibiotic to protect the human body from the virus. The virus causes nerve damage and attacks the immune system. The immune system is very important to us humans. Our immune system is our defense mechanism against any infection that invades our body and zika virus is attacking the immune system not a great virus to contract. With this new epidemic that has come to our country, I’m also questioning and researching; what is our government and the centers for disease control doing to help us Americans survive the virus if we are bit?.
So what are the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also known as the CDC doing to help fight this new dangerous virus? According to the CDC they do not have any type of medicine or antibiotic to help fight off this new dangerous virus. Though the CDC states they are working around the clock to find a medicine and or an antibiotic fighter to save the human bodies and new human babies whom will be born.
I like to ask a lot of questions and I love researching. I wanted to know if the government is working on anything to help contain the dangerous virus that has come to our country. I wanted to know if our government is making moves to help out with the epidemic. I did read that the Government has known about the outbreak of zika since 2007 which came from the Zika forest in Uganda, but it wasn’t here in America. This virus is in third world countries not the industrial money making countries. This doesn’t happen here in America we are safe! But apparently we are not, due to all the out of country companies, people are doing a lot of traveling from country to country which brings a lot of travelers back home with unwanted travelers. I just hope the CDC and the Government continue to work hard to find an antibiotic or some type of medicine to protect all of our human bodies.
I also did some more research just to feel safe from mosquitos. Please be observant and aware, when you are watering or it rains make sure to empty all buckets that are around your home. Don’t leave stagnant water like puddles or holes. Dormant and stagnant water is a high breeding arena for mosquitos. Please stay cautious of your areas in your neighborhood, school and even your jobs.
