You have heard it all before, at least a million times, "Follow your dreams! Always chase after them!" Your parents, teachers, coaches—basically any adult you knew always encouraged you to chase after whatever dream you had, from the most elaborate dreams such as a princess ballerina space cadet to a mummy dinosaur that lives on Mars. You eventually got to an age where your dreams became more realistic, such as becoming a doctor, lawyer or teacher. You began to set goals for yourself, even if it was that you would make all As on your report card or you would make your bed every day before you went to school. Then you got a little older. You found out that maybe the dreams that you had for yourself weren't as achievable as you thought.
You begin to doubt yourself. "What if I'm not smart enough to become a doctor? What if no one will ever take me seriously? What if I fail?"
All of the self-doubt leads to you almost giving up on your dreams. You believe that maybe you aren't worthy of your dreams, that other people deserve to follow their dreams but you don't. But then you remember that you are not a quitter. You remember all the people that told you to never give up on your dreams. You remember that the first step in following your dreams is believing in yourself.
You decide that never again will you stray from your dreams. You decide that you will never be able to accomplish anything if you first don't believe that it is possible. Giving up is no longer an option. Giving up is for quitters, and quitters are the people that don't believe in themselves.
God created us in his own exquisite, perfect image. He gave us immeasurable talents and gifts to use to show him glory. We are called upon by God to use these gifts to bring him glory and to spread his word and love to other people. We should use any talent that God has given us to our full potential!
I have dreams one day of becoming an attorney. Almost every time I tell someone this, they look at me with shock. "That is going to be really hard! Are you sure you want to do something like that?" I am extremely sure. When doubt begins to fill my mind that I might not be smart enough, or witty enough, or even tough enough to be an attorney, I stop the doubt that has been creeping into my thoughts right in its tracks. I am all of those things, and nothing or no one will get in the way of me chasing my dreams. If Elle Woods can do it will all odds stacked against her, so can I.
No matter how insane or irrational or silly your dreams are, follow them. Follow them because life is too short to give up so easily. Follow them because a lot of passion and hard work can really take you places. Follow them for you, not for anyone else. Follow them because you believe in yourself and that is all you need.
It is an adventure to be alive, and part of this adventure is chasing after dreams. There is an endless amount of adventures to be taken, and it is impossible to know where life may lead you. Chase your dreams, no matter how crazy they may be. Live life with no regrets.
