It might be summer, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still think about school during my break. But while reflecting on the past school year now, it got me thinking about some of the memories and realizing college is definitely an adventure. An important adventure actually. College isn’t always about the many papers that we write or the tests that we take. It’s not about the countless homework assignments or the never ending all-nighters. It’s not always about the grades we receive or our GPA’s. There are other important factors when it comes to college.
College is about learning lessons. It’s about being spontaneous sometimes. It’s about being involved even when we don’t totally understand what’s going on. It’s about volunteering as much as we can. It’s about going on random adventures no matter what time it is. College will never just be about the grade or the degree we’ve earned.
College has taught me to procrastinate. It’s okay. The assignment will still be there waiting for you, and you will get it done. College has taught me to sometimes forget about the grade and just try my best. It’s taught me that I won’t be this young forever. I have forever to grow up and work a job. I don’t have forever to dance in the pouring rain with my friends. I won’t have forever to stop the paper I am writing and run to Sonic for a quick break. I won’t have forever to volunteer my butt off. I won’t have forever to scream, "woooooo!" in the pouring rain and watch my friend Angela chase after her flip-flops. I won’t have forever to go football and basketball games as a college student and sit in the student section. I won’t have forever to be young. I won’t have forever to rant to my friend Megan and eventually end in tears. I won’t have forever to run from Bible study to homework. I won’t have forever where I can just stop, take a breath, and continue on pushing through the stress. It’s about forgetting from having too much fun.
College is way more than what we make it out to be. It also has reminded me and encouraged me to grow in my faith. It has helped me remember that life is only temporary. It’s about discovering the constant reminder. It’s about praying when the stress becomes too much. It’s about forgetting about the test and just trying our best for God. No matter how much fun college can be, it won’t last forever. It will only be temporary because this life is only temporary. We won’t be on this Earth forever. I am not guaranteed tomorrow. I could live another month, another year. It does not matter. I won’t live forever and I am aware of that. I won’t have forever on this earth. And I realize God has my life planned out. He is in utter control.
Sometimes, you need to stop and take that hundredth photo. You need to knock on your best friends door and ask for her to go on a walk. Sometimes, you need to take a moment to read a few verses. Sometimes, you need to remind yourself that it is okay to take a break. College is definitely a learning experience.
