Why is Being a 'Cat Person' Looked Down On?

Why is Being a 'Cat Person' Looked Down On?

It's something I've wondered about for years. I like both cats and dogs, and happily have a cat at home, but I've come to find that whenever cats are mentioned in the general public, the overall reaction is, "Ugh, cats... dogs are so much better."

Why has it come to this? Cats aren't always the nicest creatures, but they possess qualities that many animals don't have or simply can't provide. Are dogs really that much more special than cats that they are looked at as "better?"

Cats can be loving, smart, cuddly, cunning, friendly, skittish, and crazy. Not all cats are the same, but if there's one thing they'll never be, it's boring. Whereas most dogs act relatively the same (uber friendly, loyal, and brave to a fault), cat personalities vary as much as human personalities do. They're also very low maintenance and don't require as much attention and daily activity as most dogs do.

Cats are popular only one day a year: Halloween. I can't even count the number of girls who dress up as black cats every year, complete with drawn-on whiskers and cat-ear headbands. Do you seen anyone dressed up as a dog? That's what I thought.

Now, this article isn't meant to bash on dogs and dog-lovers. I love dogs! Who doesn't? But it has become "cool" in our society to hate on cats and cat-owners, even stereotyping people who have lots of cats as weird and perpetually single. This isn't true, and on the flip side, could be equally applied to people who own tons of dogs. The point is, personality traits don't necessarily have to do with what type of animal a person owns. Who gave society these ideas?

The moral of the story is, if you like cats, own it! It isn't a crime to love cute things. People will probably respect your honesty, and who cares if they don't.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
