Before I went off to college, I was given two tickets to go see the band Imagine Dragons in Washington D.C. as a birthday present. At the time, I liked the band, but wasn't completely in love with them yet. When the concert began, lead singer Dan Reynolds talked to the audience about how this was their first show back in the United States after their time in Europe. Dan and the rest of the band said they were sad to miss the fourth of July and to make up for it, wanted to make this one of their biggest celebrations yet.
As soon as the music begun, I felt myself opening up, it was as though I had never truly heard their music before. I refused to sit in my seat, dancing and singing during the entire concert. I realized that I was in my own little piece of nirvana, that this band was above the rest because of their unique sound.
After the concert, I had the bands songs stuck in my head constantly, along with a few of the songs from their opening act Halsey. At first, I thought that these songs were stuck because of their rhythm. Then I began to realize that I loved these songs so much because they were easy to relate to. All of the lyrics they sang I could apply to my life and inspired me to better myself.
Probably one of the most motivational songs by the band is "Radioactive", it brings a sense of determination to the listener. But what some don't realize, is that almost every Imagine Dragons song is as awe inspiring as this, even if their not as popular. Songs such as "Monster" and "Polaroid" also make me question who I am and how my actions are influential.
I think what some people don't realize is that the band's songs are used more frequently than anticipated, such as "It's Time" in the trailer for "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" or "Who We Are" in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Even though it may not be realized by some that these are songs by the band, these songs provide a message of inspiration and show the motivation of characters in films.
Whether I need something to get me going in the morning, a final push in my workout, or I'm about to make a big decision, motivational songs are always good for me to listen to. For me, every single one of the songs by the band has inspired or motivated me in one way or another. I think the most important thing that the lyrics in Imagine Dragons songs have done in my life thus far is encouraging me to be myself and to never change that. For that, I will always be thankful!
