My freshman year I made the best decision of my college career – rushing Alpha Omicron Pi. Though it started off a bit bumpy, the past three years have been beyond incredible. Subliminally, this organization has molded me into the woman I am today. It has taught me how to trust, forgive, love and build relationships on top of organization, time management and patience. “My sisters have been there for me"— this sentence is an understatement. My sisters have essentially helped me create the foundation of my adult self. Throughout the late night studying in the chapter room, the random emotional breakdowns, the past 1 a.m. “let’s talk about our secrets” time, delusional episodes from lack of sleep, pushing me to do better for myself, understanding that trust for me takes time, reminding me about self-control and sweetness, the list goes on.
You have each played a vital part in this transition from child to adult. You have each given me life skills and experiences, memories and stories. You have each contributed a piece to what makes me, me. Three years. Three years of good times, bad times, dramatic times, unforgettable times, times I don’t remember, but you do, scary times and emotional times that are now being treasured as memories, which I will value forever. If you’re Greek, you know this feeling all too well— the one where you have to say goodbye to your past in order to say hello to your future. Unfortunately, the CEO of a Fortune 500 Company that I will soon interview for will not know or care about these memories. They won't think being NPC President was as cool as we thought it was. They won't care about that one time Annyka and I flipped that canoe over at Madie’s lake house, and even though it practically landed on top of us, I still managed to save my drink. They won't remember how intense that time was during recruitment when Rawls yelled at all of us for cutting the shirt off her panda. They will definitely never understand how much Panda Passes are dreaded but how much they’re needed. They won't know or care, but I do.
All of those times and more have shaped me into who I am. The good, the bad and the ugly will always be apart of me. As I keep those memories with me, I’m at the point in my life where it’s time to start new memories, in a new city, with new people. Even though I am gut wrenchingly terrified to begin this chapter, I know it’ll all workout. Just like I knew when I ran to those big beautiful letters on the last day of Rush it would work out. Out of the 69 of your beautiful faces, I will never forget any one of them. I want to thank you from the very bottom of my heart for helping create myself. Thank you for the restless nights and not so energetic mornings, thank you for the socials, mixers and philanthropy events, but most of all thank you for letting me have the honor to call each and every one of you my sisters.
