I think the last time I was this excited about seeing a band was when I went to go see Foster The People. Wait, no. Scratch that. It was Best Coast. Well wait -- I think it was actually Foster The People because I was 17-years-old and it was the summer before my junior year of high school and I was giddy as ever. No, for real. Back in high school I was more of a concert junkie addict than I am right now -- but that's mainly because I was younger and didn't have so many damn bills to pay. So, I blew all of my money on concerts.
But what am I doing? I'm digressing.
I've wanted to see the indie-rock-alternative band for my entire life, now. When I first heard their 2008 hit song, "Help, I'm Alive," I instantly fell in love with their strange, symphonic, electric, smooth guitar, rock style. (I don't know if any of that description made sense, but it probably does if you've listened to their music) I remember when my ex-boyfriend got to see them when we were in like eleventh grade, and I was super jealous. Well aha, the time has come, and I am seeing one of my favorite bands in the entire universe and I vow that it will be one of the most incredible nights ever. It has to be. The reason why I love Metric so much is not just because they're this cool, Canadian based rock band that has been jamming out and staying rad since '98. (Though, those things are still pretty cool) I like them because each and every one of their songs off all of their albums are completely diverse from one another. I've come across a lot of music where most of the songs sound very similar to each other, but bands like Metric know how to mix it up, and give each separate album it's own kind of flavor, it's own style or mood. Also, all of their songs (if not most of them) have spoken out to me, as I can relate to the lyrics and connect with the lead singer -- the gorgeous and talented (not to mention bad-ass) Emily Haines.
I'm so pumped to belt out these amazing lyrics with band themselves, surrounded by other passionate Metric-loving people.
Lights of days
Will beat a path through the mirrored maze
I can see the end
But it hasn't happened yet
I can see the end
But it hasn't happened yet
-- "Breathing Underwater"
Watch out Cupid
Money is a sick muse
Pull your little arrows out
And let me live my life
-- "Sick Muse"
We're so close
To something better left unknown
We're so close
To something better left unknown
I can feel it in my bones
-- "Gimme Sympathy"
We hide out in the back
Like shadows in a stranger's dream
Hiding out in the back together
-- "Artificial Nocturne"
Did they tell you you should grow up
When you wanted to dream
Did they warn you, better shape up
If you want to succeed
I don't know about you
Who are they talking to
They're not talking to me
-- "Twilight Galaxy"
I obviously can't say from experience because I've never been to a Metric concert, but it just looks like they have so much energy, and it seems as though they put on an incredibly lively and energetic show.
And hey, the lead singer is absolutely adorable. (I may or may not have a girl-crush on this person.)
I'm even suuuuuper pumped for all of the people at the concert who share my love for this awesome band. There's something about being in a room full of people who know share at least one thing with you, and that you've all come together to enjoy a night full of musical bliss.
I'm just extremely ready, and it's only five days away.
Here we go...
