Why I'm Afraid Of Donald Trump

Why I'm Afraid Of Donald Trump

I'm scared of Donald Trump. He's the boogey man, he's the monster under the bed, he's the knock at the door in the middle of the night, he's also the GOP winner of the New Hampshire Primary. Honestly, I'm terrified of him and I'm terrified that people are voting for him. The joke's over.

I'm scared of Donald Trump, as a person who believes that people are inherently good. Trump is gaining support by encouraging people to hate complete strangers. He believes we should hate people because of the way they look, and the religion they practice, the people they love, and the place they were born. He wants us to generalize and blame entire populations of people, he wants us to hate strangers for believing in the American Dream, a dream he doesn't believe they deserve.

I'm scared of Donald Trump as a feminist. As a young feminist, I see the way Trump treats women. He insults women with crude comments and throws insults that attack our physical appearance. He attacks the parts of us that make us women, parts we should never be ashamed of. He laughs us off and considers us emotionally unstable, he treats us as secondary citizens, he's a sexist.

I'm scared of Donald Trump because he thrives on hate, and anger and fear. He takes what people are afraid and exploits that to attract support. He uses blind anger, rash judgments and misplaced fear to gain support. He tells people who to hate and they believe him. People trust him.

A friend once said to me "Donald Trump is the a**hole we need." But do we as Americans really need an a**hole? The world we live in lacks compassion. It lacks empathy, and understanding and love.

I guess the biggest reason I'm scared of Donald Trump is because he lacks all of the things that our world so desperately needs right now. He lacks compassion, and empathy and understanding. So no, Donald Trump is not the a**hole we need, because we don't need an a**hole. We need raw, no strings attached compassion, we need to believe in the good of humanity, and Donald Trump is not the man to make us believe in that again.
