Yes, yes, I am one of “those” people who take an obnoxious amount of time in the shower. I'm the guy who uses all the hot water and leaves the bathroom with more steam than a sauna. Despite being yelled at by my dad and probably my future roommates, taking my sweet time in the shower is usually the best part of my day. Why? You ask, well it is the only part of the day I truly have to myself. Nobody is around. Just me. I get to release the shackles of my clothing and finally be free. All the worries of the day get to be filtered through, this is my time to think, my time to reflect. I ponder all sorts of things. From upcoming exams to my future career all the way to climate change and the length of the universe. This is the moment where abstract ideas meet reality and where reality drifts into abstract ideas. There is no formula to it, all you need to do is take some extra time under the water pressure to truly let go and just think.
Despite letting your mind wander, a long hot shower is good for you physically. It will loosen the tension in your muscles and let your body breath. Then there is the obvious that a long shower will clean you. The longer the shower the more your pores will open and allow them to be cleaned.
In all honestly, I've never considered myself much of a religious person. However, all the major religions acknowledge the importance of water. Not just drinking water to live, but the holy water the Christians use to baptise. Water is considered one of the main ways to get in touch with your spiritual side. Running water is considered full of life, with countless healing possibilities.
Look I'm a big advocate for preserving the environment and our resources, but one thing I refuse to give up are my lengthy showers. For those of you who also indulge in long showers, continue to reap the benefits! For those of you who are in and out in 15 minutes or for those of you who don't shower at all, I encourage you to let yourself feel the power of a long shower.
