We have all experienced an addictive relationship with a TV series. When a Netflix binge is on your mind more than actually hanging out with people, you know you are in an unhealthy and addictive relationship with a TV show. Much like our real life relationships, when they come to an end, we feel like our lives are ending as well. However, for me, one ending seems tougher than others. The ending of Friends has mentally and emotionally changed my life. Why am I constantly wondering about these fictional characters like they are real people? These are five constant thoughts I have about my Friends.
- I will never know if Phoebe and Mike have cute little babies. Finally, Phoebe has her perfect, normal, happy ending with Mike. I really couldn’t have imagined a better ending for her. But I want to know more. How is her marriage? Do she and Mike end up moving out of the city? Does she choose a bohemian theme for her baby’s nursery? Does she let her toddlers dress themselves in Halloween costumes every day and paint on the walls? Knowing I will never see Phoebe be a mother is heartbreaking and I am left to imagine how precious her hippy babies would be.
- Do Rachel and Ross have the perfect wedding? Is Emma the flower girl? Does Rachel wear the most beautiful and expensive wedding gown? Is Phoebe her maid of honor? Is Monica a bridesmaid? Where do they go on their honeymoon? What type of flowers does she choose? These questions will never be answered, and I only hope that Ross and Rachel get married and live in the cutest house completely decorated with Pottery Barn furniture.
- Does Joey ever find his true love? Will he end up settling down with the love of his life or will he continue to say “how you doin’?” forever? Does his future wife become friends with all his sisters? Do they all accept her or get jealous of the new woman in his life? Does he have kids?
- What do Monica and Chandler’s twins look like? Does Chandler become the perfect dad that he never had? Does Monica make everyone wash their hands before they hold her babies? How do they like life in the suburbs? Do they make an entirely new group of friends and never visit the city? Does Monica become the mom that makes the best chocolate chip cookies?
- Do the friends stay best friends? It’s so hard to imagine how their lives are separate, but at the end of the day, does Monica call Rachel complaining about Chandler making a dumb joke to their children’s first grade teacher? Do Ross, Chandler, and Joey still go to basketball games all the time? Does Phoebe still give her honest and loving advice? Does Ross still inform them about paleontology? Are all their kids friends? Do they EVER go back to Central Perk? Does Gunther still wait on them?
These questions will forever haunt me. I will never know the lives of these characters after the show ends. These friends' lives ended when the show did and that constantly depresses me. I think I will probably always mourn the ending of Friends.
