8 Reasons Why I Love Being A Barista
Whether you work at Starbucks, Dunkin, Pete's, or another coffee shop- Here are 8 things you can relate to if you love being a barista.

1. People

Giphy

Working as a barista I have met SO many incredible people. My coworkers make the job a million times more fun, and I love hearing about their adventures outside of work too. When it comes to customers, of course, there are unpleasant ones, but I have also met so many lovely and hilarious people just chatting out the drive-through window waiting for drinks to be made.

2. Experimenting

Giphy

When I have a few extra minutes on my hand, I love trying out whatever drinks I can think of with a combination of the different ingredients we have. I have found some of my favorite drinks this way and have made some pretty wacky things, too.

3. Learning

Giphy

I am basically a walking coffee encyclopedia at this point. There is so much more to coffee then I could have ever imagined, and I'm glad I have been able to learn more about it. I always thought black coffee was simply black coffee, but little did I know I would be at coffee tastings picking out the different notes of each of the roasts we offer.

4. Perks

Giphy

Free coffee, need I say more? Seriously though, where I work the pers are amazing. From college to Spotify premium they've got you covered.

5. Perfecting my skills

Giphy

It's always so exciting to feel like I understand an aspect of the job that has always confused me, plus when my coworkers recognize it feels even better! I also love helping out new baristas on the floor

6. Trying new products

Giphy

Employees get to try out the new products sometimes weeks before they are released. I love to be in the know, and it is always fun to get insider information!

7. Fast-pace environment

Giphy

Especially during peak hours, the fast pace that comes with working at a coffee shop definitely makes your workday go by faster.

8. People (again)

Giphy

I think I need to mention how great fellow baristas can be just one more time. The job would truly not be the same without them.

Now, what do you love about being a barista?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
