Holidays such as Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Hanukkah, St. Patricks Day, and such all hold a significance to our community. They celebrate a significant event that happened within history that influenced a large number of people, typically trying to spread the good spirit of the event that became a holiday tradition. However, what is the significance of such holidays, and why do we continue to honor such traditions? These are a few questions one can ask when analyzing the importance of having these traditions in our society.

First, one needs to identify the purpose of each of the holidays that are being celebrated throughout the world. Some may hold a higher significance for specific groups of people compared to others, but they all hold a core message. The core message that each of the holidays hold usually comes from religious references, honoring a specific group of people who have sacrificed something for the community, or is a remembrance to tragic events such as what had happened in September 11thh 2001 (also known as 9/11).

For example, the reason for Labor Day is to honor all the people who work in our work force and contribute productivity within society. Although the sentiment of the holiday is good, it is not necessarily reasonable to have such a holiday. However, holidays like Labor Day exist to show that anyone who works is appreciated, and that their hard work is rewarded. It allows people to feel appreciated for what they have done, allowing them to have a day off to celebrate, rest, or do leisurely activities.

Without holidays, essentially there would be nothing that pushes the importance of significant events that have occurred in the world. People would not celebrate anything, not even events such as birthdays, achieving something challenging, etc. There would be a lack of incentive to do many things in the world other than working in order to survive. Having holidays gives people a character, allowing them to express what is important to us as a society.

People typically appreciate the coming of a holiday, while others may take holidays for granted, since there are so many throughout the year. Since the holidays occur so often, people may feel that their significance is watered down. However, it is the opposite.

Holidays occur every year to remind us that holidays are a beacon of our values as people. To honor our loved ones, the gift of giving, the meaning of sacrifice, why hard work matters, and more. These holidays don’t exist just to have more days off. They were meant to tell us what is important to remember and to honor that can help each of us improve ourselves.

Holidays also have the benefit of allowing us to reconnect with old relatives and create more memories to tighten our bond with friends and family. These elements in our life give us even more reason to believe that intangibles are important. Intangibles range from things such as happiness, motivation, and reasoning.

Overall, Holidays have a purpose. They honor important events that have occurred throughout history, allow people to have their own sense of character, and the ability for us to reconnect with friends and family. All of the holidays are significant in their own way and have their own core message that it tries to convey to the common man. Holidays will continue to be a tradition in our society, and we should always remember the importance of each holiday to understand why they are a significant part of our lives.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
