Why Having A Type Is Overrated

Types. We've all heard of them, lived by them, and thought way too much about them. Types are just a completely invalid excuse as to why someone might chose one attractive person over another. An excuse to choosing money over substance and looks over soul. Types, in general, are just plain idiotic.

What has happened to dating? It has come to the online social world of swiping left and right because one guy had a better jaw line and brighter eyes, or one girl had blonde hair and the other had brown. Media has created a gateway into the stereotypes of hell. Dating is no longer based on how someone makes you feel, but rather how big their biceps are and the size of their waists.

Types are ignorant and foolish because how can any of us really know what we want? Can you seriously say that you would never date anyone that wasn't over 5'9? Can you genuinely tell me that the person you spend the rest of your life with is absolutely, unequivocally going to wear size 2 jeans? No. And I want to offer up my deepest condolences to those of you getting angry and saying, "you don't fall in love with personality at first sight!" Hey, man. I totally agree with ya'. You don't fall in love with personality at first sight, but you will not continue to fall in love with perfectly chiseled abs or beautiful blue eyes. You will continue to fall in love with someone's work ethic, strength, hope, and more importantly, something like their faith.

Someone once told me that types are overrated simply because they are a shallow way of evaluating someone else, and in return will reflect the depth in yourself. They show what you want on the outside of someone. The very clear surface anatomy of someone's personality, and falling in love with something so trivial, in my opinion, will result in unsatisfactory love.

In a truthful reality, here's what your type should be: someone who will care and love for you unconditionally. Someone who when you can no longer eat without the help of someone else will stick by your side. Someone who when you are acting like a complete and total psycho path will hold your hand and say everything is going to play out just right. Someone who will cherish every single piece of you until your very last breath. No perfect teeth, no small hips, no perfectly toned booty. Pure, raw, undoubted, substantial love. That's a type. And that's the type you should be seeking after.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
