You met some of them at orientation and had an immediate bond.
As if you weren't nervous enough about coming to college for various other reasons, making friends came as a particularly nerve-wracking experience. Chances are you were grouped at orientation according to academic major and chances are you probably made a friend in a major similar to yours. Not only did this person have similar interests to you, but you had someone to be excited about coming to college with. This is where it all began.
You always have someone to sit with in major-related classes.
Whether it's the first day of your freshman year or the last class of your college career, making friends in your major means that you will always have someone to sit with in certain classes.
You join the same extracurricular activities together.
As much as you want to be involved on campus the idea of going to a general interest meeting alone is terrifying. The people in your major are most likely also interested in getting involved in the same clubs and will gladly accompany you.
Group study sessions.
Between eating lots of snacks and studying late into the night with a small group, reserving a breakout room at the tech center or library has never been more fun.
You encourage each other in career-related endeavors.
Whether you're applying for a very competitive internship or writing a term paper about a challenging topic, the people in your major will do whatever they can to help you because they really want you to be successful.
When you need to vent about a class, they get it.
After projects, exams and presentations begin to weigh heavy on your mind, these are the people who are either in the same boat and can help you blow off some steam or they're the people who have been there and can help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.
You get excited about the same things.
There is always that one class that getting an A on a test seems impossible, but when it happens no one understands how exciting it is better than people in your major. These friends will be your biggest cheerleaders because they know how much time you put towards earning that grade.
You start to actually like them as people.
At long last, you realize that you have more in common with these people than just your major and make the transition from acquaintances to friends that you can't imagine your colligate career without.
