Shopping has struggles of its own. It is both rewarding and annoying at the same time. But for some, it is more annoying than rewarding. Here are eight reasons why I hate shopping:
1. Lack Of Discounts.
Except for food, I will never pay for anything at full price. I will check if there are any extraordinary discounts before even stepping into a store. And I am not just talking about a 20% discount. There must be at least a 50% discount on every piece of clothing with an additional 50% off my total purchase for me to step inside. I want to feel like I won a lottery when I step outside, not like I just lost a whole week’s salary.
2. The manequin.
The clothes inside behind the window are never as good as inside the window. The outfits on the manikins look so perfect, as if the clothes are just made for me. And then the things inside the store that we are supposed to call clothes look nothing like what we see on the manikins. It is like a beautifully decorated restaurant whose food is simply horrible.
3. Lines.
I hate standing in long lines just to buy clothes. Cashiers spend half the time just reciting deals and benefits we can get if we sign up for another account. I think I am already spending enough money on the clothes I am getting from your store to waste more money on something else. And that too for an account that will probably come in useful only once.
4. Fitting Rooms.
The effort it takes to wait for a fitting room, count how many items you have, tell the fitting room supervisor how many items you have, and actually change into those items is extremely demanding. I feel like I just ran a marathon when coming out, and the clothes don’t look as appealing either.
5. Sizes.
My shirt sizes and t-shirt sizes are always in between two sizes. I would sometimes wish a size such as 4 ½, 6 ½ , and so on existed for jeans and a “smedium” or “marge” existed for shirts. It gets frustrating when deciding to go for one size over another, and requires a lot of mental effort.
6. Shopping Bags.
We all know those advertisements that show a woman carrying ten bags of stuff that looks happy. That is all a lie! No one has that much fun carrying shopping bags around. If anything, it only makes you want to go home sooner. In addition to this, the bags are never as pretty as the ones in the ads are.
7. Other Shoppers.
Competition exists everywhere, even in shopping. It is as if a quiet war is going on to claim the best shoes and clothes. The whole process is just another episode of Game Of Thrones, except here people are fighting for ownership of a piece of fabric ( and we try not to kill others). But this does not only happen in apparel shopping, it also happens in groceries. And I have learned from grocery shopping that the most upsetting things in life are not heartbreaks, but a stranger just randomly picking up an orange, apple, or lettuce that you had your eye on for the past few seconds.
8. Time.
Driving to a mall, finding a parking spot that is closest to the mall, and then finally going shopping is time-consuming. And it feels even more time-consuming when you exit the mall without buying a single new shirt or pair of jeans. Clearly the mall has been designed to irritate you and next time you will just go online shopping, or wait until the next career fair at your school to get free swag.
