I've always been close with my parents. It's the best -- honestly the biggest blessing. I understand that not everyone has this opportunity, so I feel very lucky to call my mom and dad my best friends -- and they're the most fun best friends ever.
I always try to take advantage of every opportunity I can to spend time with them. There's nothing I love more than going out to eat with my parents, and listening to them talk and laugh. (Plus, there's a higher chance you'll get to choose the restaurant if you're with your rents as opposed to your friends.) Another thing I love is getting to see funny movies with my parents. It's always funnier to hear your dad chuckle, or your mom cry laughing at something Will Ferrell does.
I love when I'm home over breaks and get to go shopping, get lunch and pedicures with my mom. There's something about doing girly/best friend stuff with your mom that can't be beat. Even though half the time she says, "Isn't this cute?" and I have to reply, "Yeah for you!" But no worries, the other half she's spot on and picks out the best clothes for me.
I also love getting to cook with my mom. She's the amazing cook who taught me how to cook, so helping her out in the kitchen is the best -- even though I always go overboard on the garlic. Oh, and I can't forget my dad hovering around, picking at the food and continuously saying, "So, when are we eatin'?" Not to mention, they always pick up my favorite food when they know I'm coming home for the weekend or break, and if not, I get to have a blast with my mom at the grocery store.
I can't keep from laughing every time I'm trying to go to bed at home and my dad barges in my room and tries to lay in my bed -- normally taking up the whole bed. I always act like it's such a pain but it's funny every time he tries to watch TV with me or snoop over my shoulder at my computer.
Can't forget road trips with them. Leave it to my mom to blast Christmas music over the holidays and leave it to my dad to try to dance to rap songs. Also, I can always count on my mom wanting to stop everywhere and my dad almost getting hives in Buccee's because of all the people around.
All of these little things make me appreciate my parents more and more. I love spending time with them, and they deserve it because all of the things they've done for me, and continue to do for me. There's never a dull moment and I'm so thankful for such a fun and loving relationship with my mom and dad. I promise, hanging out with your 'rents is the best.
