Ah, October is finally upon us, its been so long hasn't it? The leaves are falling, the smell of pumpkin is in the air, and boot season is a go. But all of these autumn clichés pail in comparison to one of the biggest holidays of the year: Halloween. Now, when most people think of Halloween they instantly picture little kids roaming neighborhood streets in the latest Batman costume. Often, they are searching for the one house that hands out the sacred king-sized Hershey's bar. However, as kids get into high school, trick-or-treating is far less exciting; the few that still participate may be scrutinized for attempting to steal candy from their neighbors. And then college comes, and suddenly we are all eight years old again and Halloween is amazing. Here's why:
1. It's a great excuse to buy tons of candy...and never regret it.
Who said trading candy had to stop in middle school? Someone on your floor definitely wants your Almond Joys in exchange for some Reese's (not).
2. Halloween movie marathons.
"Halloweentown" is a must along with "Twitches" and every single Disney Channel halloween TV episode, trust me they are worth the watch. And then when you really want to be scared watch Hocus Pocus, it will change you.
3. Decorating your room.
Whether it be covering your door with cobwebs or having pumpkins on your desk, the scarier the better when it comes to dorm decorations. I mean who doesn't want their neighbors to scream when they pass your room in the middle of the night?
4. Carving pumpkins.
It's a perfect Saturday activity and it's not too pricey...always a plus for college kids. And it guarantees a nice Instagram that shows how artsy you and your friends are.
5. Getting to dress up.
Whether everyone knows what you are or has no idea is irrelevant, as long as you look good wearing it. This means you can drop $60 at Spirit Halloween or buy cat ears at the dollar store. No one will question you.
6. It's all weekend long.
Some argue that Halloween is only on October 31, but in college time..it's the day before and the day after too. That means you need at least two to three costumes and must be on your A-game all of Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
See, how could we forget that Halloween is so amazing. It not only brings out the kid in all of us, but for at least 24 hours you get to be anyone you want....sign me up. This Halloween, enjoy it for all of those who forget why it is so great.
And don't forget that Halloween care package you know will be in your mailbox.
