As someone who is a townie, a UIUC student, and not yet a part of Greek life at Illinois you don't really seem to belong at Greek Reunion. For those of you who don't know, Greek reunion is a whole week in the summer where current UIUC students and ones that graduated forever ago come back to campus and go to Red Lion, Kams, Joes, Clys, and many more of the popular campus bars.
I am a sophomore at UIUC and a townie but am not rushing until this upcoming Fall. However, I have quite a few friends in the Greek system at Illinois and went to the bars with them. To some, Greek reunion might just seem like a drunken weekend for grown ups to act like they're in college again and for college students to get amped up to come back to school in August. But as a student and someone with numerous friends in the greek system I see it as way more than just a drunken weekend.
In case you didn't know Greek life at UIUC is HUGE. I mean huge. And based on what I've seen, you truly can't beat it. Not just the bar crawls and the formals and parties but the relationships. Don't get me wrong, in my opinion we have the best bars and parties. But the best relationships too.
As I was standing in line to get into Red Lion last night, I made a few friends (drunk girls around me). As I made conversation with them I asked what sorority they were in. They looked like they were having such a great time. Their response "Oh we graduate three years ago!" This was the moment were I was reminded how awesome my school was. These girls loved UIUC so much that they took off work from their big girl jobs and came to party with us for Greek Reunion.
I guess when they say sisterhood they really mean it.
Go Illini!
