Choosing to go to a school to learn a new trade was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I wouldn't change my decision if I tried. Here’s why.

1. I was way ahead of those from my home school.

They always told me that if I went to the career tech school, I would never go to college and that the school was for burnouts. Well you know what? I met some of the most hardworking people I have ever seen and many of them had high paying jobs right of of high school that you would have to spend thousands at a college to learn for only a few hundred instead. Most of you are going to college for the same things anyway, so who is the smart one now? Also, I am in college and I went to a career tech school, so ha.

2. I met some of the best people.

I got away from the people I spend 4 years with and spent two years with almost entirely new people. I loved it though. I related to these people WAY more than the ones at my homeschool. I had some of the best friendships those two years.

3. I had the best teachers and instructors I could ask for.

My instructors those two years taught me way more than just what I went there to learn. I learned so many life lessons and had so much fun. The teachers were also so great. They seemed like they actually cared about me, unlike how I felt at my home school. They also taught so many life lessons. I can never thank these people enough.

4. My days weren't normal.

Most schools you go through 8 or 9 periods of boring classes. Most of the time you fell asleep. I only had 4 classes a day then was in my lab for 2 ½ hours. I spend most of my days with a bunch if girls and instructors that were like family to me. We went through so much together.

5. It was like a big family.

The whole school was like a huge family, especially in bad situations. Any time there was an unexpected death, a house fire, a sickness, etc we came together and helped each other and the people suffering. Even when we didn't know them, it was like we did.

6. I earned a license.

I was not the only one, though. I got a license in cosmetology, others got licenses in what they studied for and I couldn't be more proud of them. People from our home schools would tell us how easy it would be to pass and that classes were easy. They could not be more wrong.

7. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

This was one of the best decisions I think I could have ever made for myself, especially at this time in my life. I now have a license I can use whenever I choose. I may not use mine right now, but so many that I went to school with are earning money right now doing what they worked so hard to do.

I loved every single minute of going to a career tech school (even perm wrap heaven and pin curl punishments). I met some of the best people ever, and I feel like steps ahead of the people that chose not to go to career tech school.

To my Junior and Senior instructors and teachers. Thank you for believing in my and for pushing me. I can never thank you enough for those amazing two years.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
