Up until I was 18, I had barely heard of the TV show "Friends" and didn't really have any desire to watch it. I only knew Jennifer Aniston from movies like "Along Came Polly" or "The Switch," and Matthew Perry from "17 Again." I had no idea why so many people were obsessed with the show, or why there was such a frenzy when the show was released on Netflix. Since there was such a hype and I had heard enough of "You HAVE to watch it," I decided to try it out and found myself giggling throughout the entire pilot episode because of Joey's ridiculous hair and Chandler's clever wit.
I have now watched the whole series multiple times, and I can definitely say I am now another person who is crazy about "Friends." While it is a simple, light-hearted show about six friends living picturesque lives in New York City, it teaches many important life lessons and demonstrates the good that people should cherish in life.
Amidst all the laughter, here are the 15 valuable lessons I have learned from the famous and beloved sitcom, "Friends."
1. Never be afraid to be yourself
2. Be there for those you care about
3. Be passionate about what you love
4. Make time for those who matter
5. Don't be afraid to try new things
6. Step out of your comfort zone
7. It is OK to let loose a little
8. Not everything in life has to be planned out
9. True love could be in the most unexpected place
10. Love can be hard, but it is definitely worth it
11. It is OK to make mistakes
12. Find enjoyment and laughter in every day
13. Be confident in yourself
14. Forgive others
15. Value friendship and the amazing people in your life
I have watched "Friends" numerous times, and I will probably continue to watch for a long time. I watch the show when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm stressed, when I need to relax and when I need 20 minutes (or more -- how can you just watch one episode?) of joyful entertainment. The show will always be there for me, reminding me to laugh and value the simple pleasures in life.
