Why Freshmen are the Coolest People on Campus

We are closer to graduating, but they are pretty awesome.

Why Freshmen are the Coolest People on Campus
Millsaps College

At Millsaps College, our population of less than 1,000 students, is very close knit which means that every year in August, when the freshmen arrive, they are very easy to spot for many reasons. Most of all, they are a face you don’t recognize, a person you haven’t met yet. Though it is stereotypical in movies for freshmen to be lame and seniors to be awesome and "rule the school", at Millsaps, that is not the case. Freshmen are the coolest people on campus and here’s why:

1. They are new and shiny and pretty

2. They are so beautifully naïve

3. They remind you of how you were as a Freshman

4. You have new people to tell your stories

5. They surprise you with their different perspectives

6. They get lost, and it's adorable

7. You can always sit with them in the caf and it is no big deal

8. They are so optimistic about their classes

9. They haven’t died on the inside yet

10. They dress up for class

11. They ask good questions

12. They light up when you remember their name

13. It’s not awkward to wave at them from across the room

14. They don’t judge you because they don’t know you

15. They seamlessly become a part of your squad

16. You can always count on them to know if you have homework or not

17. You can show them all of your favorite places on campus

18. You are able to watch them mature over the first few days and weeks

19. You experience their first dumb mistakes

20. They make you kind of want to be a freshman again (but not really)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
