Over the years, technology has played a significant impact on society. Technology is considered to be the branch of information that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. Technology is one thing that changed everything. For many reasons, some see things as a new beginning in the world we live in today. On the other hand, some people look at this as a negative impact. And I agree with those who disagree!
Technology would consist of cellular devices, video games, computers, etc. From my perspective, technology is still destroying my generation for various reasons! Video games are one of the things that has taken control of the youth and fellow peers in recent years. Today, people would spend their money to buy PlayStations, Xbox Ones, PC games, mobile phone games, etc. The range of consoles would be from two hundred to six hundred dollars. The video games would range from 15 dollars to 80 dollars. The video games today can have people play each other online for hours and hours. Video games are what kids love now. In fact, they like them so much, that they might overhear something like this from their parents: "Enough! Unplug that damn thing and find something else to do!" It can be good advice, even if you about to go into another stage of a game. Why? Too much of anything is not good. Also, it is true that some lessons have shown certain video games can progress hand–eye coordination, problem-solving skills, and the mind's capability to process information. But, people who constantly play video games have to realize that it may lead to health problems.
As a kid, I would spend most of my time going outside. Usually, I would play games in the backyard or at a park. At my age, my peers and I would play freeze tag, basketball, football, baseball, ride bikes, and etc. I had video games, but I spent at least an hour on it, maybe a little more, but that was it. Honestly, running around outside for about five hours after school was a lot better. In my high school years, popular video games would take the attention of my peers. For example, NBA 2K and shooting games caused people to stay inside their rooms. As a student athlete, I kept my mind on the stuff that was more important than video games. Even though I had a lot of video games, I would not play for three to four hours. My parents once said “keep your head in the books and watch you get further." They also asserted that, “in the world we live in, there is a lot of things to do than just playing video games for three hours.” There’s more in life than just playing NBA 2K or Call of Duty. In other words, my studies were more important than video games.
Today, it's very difficult to get enough energetic play and workout if you're always inside playing video games. And without enough exercise, kids can become overweight and start to get lazy to do other things. Technology also leads to the limit of conversations. Conversations would involve two or more people exchanging words from one another about one specific topic. Usually, people would have various conversations with each other how it was, back in the day, before cell phones and texting. Technology back then were not as good as it is now. Today, people would not even put their phones down to talk to one another. For example, going on dates with others aren’t the same as anymore. One day, I was walking to get Thai food and saw a couple eating. Both of them had their phones and things seem odd for me. It was east to see that no conversation was going on because both of them were on their phones. There would be other days when I see something like this in public. Within cell phones, people would add social media accounts. Social media accounts include Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. Those four common social media accounts were created to have people socialize. All of them have people post pictures and statuses. People keep up with the news by following those accounts. There are reasons why newspapers are around in stores, this is where we should be getting our news. With the creation of the internet, it draws attention away from newspaper stands or papers themselves, and we are therefore left with questionable information found on social media sites. In my opinion, I feel like I’m the only one who reads a newspaper.
As I continuously watch others, technology is slowly ripping people apart. I’m only 21 years old and I see eight year old kids with the same phone I have. I definitely didn't have a phone when I was eight! Currently, you often don’t see any children play outside, fellow peers focusing on their cellphones, and newspapers staying in the same spots at stores. With the rise and improvement of technology, people have to realize that technology is slowly ripping my generation apart! Go outside, get fresh air. Disconnect.
