Why Family Doesn't Always Mean Blood

Family isn't just blood.

My family means the world to me. When I say family I mean those that are blood related and those that aren't.

I have had many people come into my life and I couldn't be happier that they did.

Like my mom's ex-boyfriend, Brian, who came into my life when I five years old. He became my second dad and one of my favorite people. His nickname being Papa Bri. Not only did he bring himself and his sense of humor, but he brought his amazing, huge family as well. He brought "Grandma Kennell" who was the sweetest grandma ever and took me in as if I was her own. He brought my aunt Carol and uncle Pete, along with their amazing children. My uncle Larry who always has a big bowl of candy even though my mom says no. He brought along his other siblings who I still consider my aunts and uncles, and their children who are my cousins. They came into my life when I was so young and have stayed since, why would I consider them as anything but my family.

I have my best friends family, the Lorent's. I'm at their house constantly and greet them by saying "Hi mom, hi dad, hi brother." I don't have any siblings of my own so I took Jacob as my little brother. They treat me as though I was their fourth child.

I have many other people that my awesome mom brought into my life and that I love more than anything. Red-head Deb who is my 'aunt.' April and John who are my aunt and uncle. Ninny, who is my second mom. And so many others.

People always say, "They're not really your family because you don't share the same blood." What does that have to do with anything? Just because you don't share blood with someone that doesn't mean that they aren't your family. One of my favorite quotes is "Family doesn't always mean blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and who love you no matter what." Which explains my relationship with my non-blood related family so well. They were all there to see my grow up and were so proud of my accomplishments.

My mom brought all of these people into my life and I am so thankful for them and especially for my mom. She's my best friend and she knew these people would leave a mark on my heart that can never be removed.

I love my big, crazy family. I couldn't and wouldn't want to imagine my life without them.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
