As the days are starting to get a bit chillier and winter gets closer, I start to reflect on the time that has passed at McDaniel. Fall is one of my favorite seasons at this school, and for good reason.
For one, Campus is beautiful this time of year.
McDaniel College is full of foliage. Once autumn rolls around, the leaves begin to change into beautiful colors. It's amazing walking around campus and seeing all of the trees in their full red, orange, and yellow glory.
Football and tailgating at McDaniel are the best.
Tailgating is a big deal at McDaniel. Football games bring our entire community together. We were recently voted the 8th best school in the country for tailgating, and on that list we were the #1 Division III school. It's really fantastic when you get to come together with friends and watch a home football game.
People like to get into the holiday spirit at McDaniel.
Fall equals Halloween and Halloween is so much fun, especially at McDaniel. Even though Halloween fell on a Monday this year, people all over campus still got dressed up to celebrate. Even professors and faculty members dressed up, and places like the library and some of the offices on campus had candy for students. Being surrounded by people in the spirit of a holiday is definitely a mood-booster.
November = Glarsgiving.
It's like a national holiday at McDaniel: the Thursday before Thanksgiving, the dining hall lays out a full Thanksgiving spread that we dub Glarsgiving. The back porch of the dining hall is lined with tables holding all of the classic Thanksgiving goodies. It's so packed in the dining hall that they actually have to give people tickets and host a whole other space for students to eat. Everyone who's got a meal plan comes out to celebrate, and it's one of the best food days of the year.
Lots of exciting events happen on campus during the fall.
Aside from our tailgating, there are lots of other sports happening on campus along with other events. Currently, our women's soccer team is dominating in the conference. We also get to see field hockey and volleyball during this time. Not to mention, asides from sporting events, there are other things happening: lots of concerts are going on and plays at the theatre for students to see.
As the season of fall is slowly moving on, I am very grateful to have experienced another Fall at McDaniel.
