Throughout your life, you will encounter many people that could be given the title of friend.
Now, some of your friends may not be the most exciting people, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it can be a blessing to have a friend that is a buzzkill. For instance, a buzzkill will keep you from doing things that could be dangerous to your well-being in some way.
Let's say that you are thinking about doing something harmful to yourself, such as drinking ghost chili hot sauce. Many of your friends may try to hype you up by cheering your name and pulling out their phones to get a video of the deed. But there needs to be at least one friend that will look at you and just say, "That is a stupid idea." These friends should be treasured above all others because they actually care about you! Instead of making you do something incredibly stupid or dangerous for some attention, they can convince you not to do something that will most definitely be a huge mistake.
I'll give you another example that is 100 percent true. I had a friend that was dared to snort salt for some money, and I had to be the buzzkill and tell him why it wasn't worth it. I know that being a buzzkill isn't always easy and there are times that you might not want to do it. Just remember though that your friends will thank you in the long run.
Think about a time when you were dared to do something stupid or were put in a bad situation and a friend had to step in and tell you that you were making a huge mistake. At the time, you may have silently thanked them in your head and your other friends probably cursed them out in theirs. I know I have had a few instances that I was glad someone talked me out of doing something bad.
Being a buzzkill isn't glamorous, but it is necessary. I took up the mantle of being the buzzkill in my group of friends and although they don't always like me for it, I know that deep down they appreciate my role. It is also good practice for being a parent one day because if I can't talk my friends out of doing something stupid, how will I ever be able to protect my kid from making similar mistakes with their friends?
So, buzzkills rejoice! You are a truly valuable asset to your friends and even if they don't say it out loud, they are glad that they have you. Keep up the good work!
