Why Everybody Should Love Thanksgiving

The First Thanksgiving

Let me start this off by saying that I love all holidays equally, but if I had to choose, Thanksgiving would be my #1.

That being said, I feel personally victimized when people skip over Thanksgiving. They jump from Halloween to Christmas without a backwards glance.

Thanksgiving, to me, is the #1 holiday for two reasons.

1. FOOD

You get to eat everything. AND there is a judgement free zone/bubble because everyone else around you is doing it. If they aren't, you need to Run. Obviously they aren't humans. Your family has been body snatched.

2. It's like just like Christmas, minus the obligation of buying everyone presents.

Basically, it's totally okay that you're a broke college student who can't afford to buy everyone nice meaningful gifts even though you really really want to. You can just enjoy the company and food without feeling guilty for not buying Aunt Marget that really nice sweater she's been talking about.

All in All, I just want people to recognize the amazing-ness that Thanksgiving really is. Without it we wouldn't have a reason for this:

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

16. To be prepared for anything.

17. That you don't always have to do it alone.

I have never been so thankful to know you.
