The Dirty Bird is home to over 400 first year students, 15 RAs, and one Hall Director. Built in 1970, Eagle Hall is the tallest building on campus. Eagle's eight floors are full of eager, excited freshmen experiencing independence for the first time. When I found out I would be living in Eagle my freshman year, I cried. I had heard the horror stories -- 40 fire alarms pulled in one semester! How would I survive? However, May 10 marks my last day of my sophomore year as well as the end of my employment as an RA back in the same building I was so afraid of. My first year of college was all I could have hoped for -- and then some. Eagle Hall is near and dear to my heart. Following are some of the reasons I would not have wanted to live anywhere else.
1. There is something oddly comforting about a 2 a.m. fire drill after a couple months of peaceful nights. It's like a restoration of normal, especially because 99 percent of the time there is no fire, just burnt popcorn.
2. No air conditioning? Ehh I could afford to sweat out a few pounds at the beginning and end of the year.
3. No wifi? Sorry, Mom and Dad.
4. I think I have spent more times on the elevators than I did in class. But meeting people on the elevators provided a perfect opportunity for bonding over the fact that one of them was probably broken.
5. The smell of Burnettes and Keystone in the elevators on Sunday mornings. Chances are, you could blame yourself for that on.
6. Being incredibly close to Mrs. Greens.
7. Meeting my absolute best friends.
8. So many students in one building means 400+ possible friends.
9. The incredible views from the penthouse (8th floor).
10. The fabulous free entertainment provided by the marching band practice at 8 a.m. on Saturdays.
11. The bonding over the struggles of living in Eagle.
23. And, lastly, the close-knit community that Eagle becomes. After spending half of my undergrad living in Eagle, I am excited to move on. Thanks for the memories, Eagle, love you long time.
