College should be taken seriously. Really, it should. Nothing bothers me more than people I can obviously tell aren’t in college for the right reasons. Of course, don’t get me wrong, there will always be parties and fun but there is a right time for all of it.
I’ve been told that I need to take a break, relax, and take some time to have fun. I understand that. However, I’m paying for school. School is a lot of money and it’s a lot of money to pay back after. I’d like to take it seriously and not pay more than I have to. Also, I have come to know when I can take a break. I do work before I do fun because that’s how I’ve always been my entire life.
One thing about college that I do not trust is the website, “Rate My Professors.”
Professors come in all different varieties. Whether they are a man, a woman, mean, or nice, every one is a different experience in itself. Over my college years, I have had some of the most memorable professors. Every semester before classes, I read the reviews for said professor on this website. For some of them, I have heard, “extremely strict,” or, “mean and expects too much.”
Expects too much.
It’s college. College professors should expect a lot from their students.
Furthermore, every student has a different experience and attitude toward a professor and they all won’t be the same. So, a professor you hate might be a professor I love!
If you go to class, actually do your work, actually participate, actually be nice, actually put your phone away for an hour, actually learn something, you really shouldn’t have a problem. Yes, there are extreme cases where a professor just seems to be mean for no reason but there is always a reason.
So, my advice to you is to never change a class just because the professor has bad reviews on Rate My Professors. Everyone has their opinion on how a class or professor has changed their perspective. Some of the classes where the professor has had a horrible review are some of the classes where I have learned the most about myself.
Take each class as a new learning experience and take each professor as a new way of learning. It might not be exactly what you prefer, but you could actually learn something new about yourself.
