Why You Don't Have to Go to The Gym During Spirit Week

Why You Don't Have to Go to The Gym During Spirit Week

What's your favorite part of spirit week? Are you laughing at me? I like seeing my sisters again too and all, but my favorite part is how it eliminates any need to visit the gym.

Maybe you are one of those girls who actually achieved that awesome summer bod we’ve all been pinteresting, or you are one of the girls who sat in a dark air conditioned room all summer binge watching Pretty Little Liars and ordering delivery (partially guilty). Whichever girl you are, the one thing you two have in common is your absence from the Turner Center.Amongst the general distaste for Spirit Week between all houses, we can all agree that one of its benefits is not having to go to the gym.

During the semester I really believe most of us should make a significant effort to work out. But the expectations are a little different for these seven days. And that is totally fine. Because for these seven days we have entered Sorority Boot camp.

Our phenomenal recruitment committee, the Rangers division of sororities everywhere, has basically brought Crossfit to the chapter room. We jump, squat, bounce, high clap, bop, dance, door stack, shimmy, and more. Philanthropy video is ten minutes long? Then you are jumping for ten minutes, which may I add is the calorie equivalent of running a mile. Now do that again, and again, and again. Hey, you basically just ran a 5k, you go girl!

When we practice Sisterhood Round, sometimes I feel like the choreographer from Bring it On is speaking to me. I'm suppose to clap and shimmy at the same time? How do I two step? I was never a dancer. Oh my goodness, the Z clap, I've got this. With all of the confusion I don't even realize my biceps are burning from high clapping for five minutes straight. And that's just the first rep. Repeat several, several times.

Now get ready for your thighs to scream at you until they die, and one, two, three, doorstack! Being told to stack your body onto of a smaller girls body, but not put any of your weight on her is like being told to perform a magic trick. If I was a magician I would try pulling money out of my ears first. If you're not short enough to be at the bottom, the taller girls climb to the ceiling, because that's how physics works right? I think a doorstack is the closest I will ever come to a dog pile.

A huge reason why I don't

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
