Everywhere I go lately, it's like politics is spewing out of everyone's mouths. Political word vomit is now a normality. It's become a second language, a best friend or, to some, an obsession. People are holding their favorite candidate up high and fighting to the finish. And they are definitely fighting hard.
Politics is something people are passionate about because most are concerned for the welfare and harmony of our great country. Don't get me wrong, I want the best for our country because I believe it was founded upon freedom, justice and the Christian faith, and those core values should be upheld. However, why are so many people fighting to the extremes? Yes, it's hard to submit to a candidate that does not have the same values or beliefs you do. Yes, it's difficult to allow someone you do not trust to cradle our country in their untrustworthy hands. I solely believe that a solid president could greatly impact our country.
But, what really matters? And I don't mean politically.
Throughout all of these political storms, wars overseas and sorrow America has endured, one constant foundation has been here the entire time.
We've had a King who set us free even before that day in 1776 when our founders declared independence. In 1787 when the Constitution was signed, our King was already ruling. When the stock market crashed in 1929, our King already knew how to recover. On Sept. 11, 2001, when many of our loved ones lives were shattered after enduring a devastating tragedy, our King remained and was there to pick up every last piece.
Who is this King?
This is the King who died on the cross for our sins. This is the King who stands with us firmly even if we leave Him. This is the King who will still be here if our favorite political candidate does not make the cut as president of the United States of America.
Even in thinking that someone with completely opposite values and morals may end up being Commander in Chief of this country is terrifying, we may rest peacefully in the arms of our King, Jesus.
The United States of America's need for a good leader will never cease. For any country, community, or group, a good leader is crucial; however, sometimes the leaders best for the job do not receive the title they deserve. So when this happens, we do our part, and we put our trust and faith in our King, Jesus. I mean, He trusts us even though we repeatedly fail Him. Why don't we trust Him too?
I know voting and politics and this entire process could not go the way you hope and I pray that it will, but it does not matter. Even if this entire country goes up into flames, Jesus will be right there with a massive fire extinguisher. We do not have to worry or stress or get worked up because we are already taken care of. Yes, it's important to vote, participate and input what we think into bettering this country, but we do not have to drive ourselves crazy. Jesus wants us to rest in His loving, caring, forgiving arms.
1 Peter 5:7 says,
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
Philippians 4:6 states,
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God."
Lastly, Matthew 11:28-30 proclaims,
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
These are just three of many verses that show how caring and loving our God is and how He wants to be there for us. No matter who wins this election, Jesus won first. He won first, and He will only continue to win.
