First off, I think the variety of words for parties during the day need to be addressed. People call them daylongs, dages, and darties. Daylong is defined as a type of party that takes place at fraternities during the day. Dage is defined as a rage during the day generally used by college kids when referring to daytime festivities similar to day rage; which makes sense because day+rage=dage. Darty is defined as a party while the sun is out; a daytime party.
So, now that we are all on the same page, I just have to say I think the word darty is the worst of the three; it just sounds so unappealing, so I am going to be using the word dage from now on. At my school, ever since I started here, dages have been the talk of the place. W
hen I was a freshman I remember all of the upperclassmen hyping dages up and saying they were the best and that they could not wait to dage all weekend. That’s what they were looking forward to on their weekend, while I was looking forward to sleeping in, however, I have been to my fair share of dages and have to say I don't see why everyone loves them so much.
First off, you have to walk in your heels and perfect dage sunglasses to a house that more often than not is miles from where you currently are. Then you have to make it past the freshman who are stuck at the front of the house, which is never a problem if you're a girl but if you have guy friends, like everyone, you have to somehow sneak them in, they have to pay, or you are all turned away; which as a side note I think is super unfair.
Anyway, if you just so happen to make it past dumb and dumber outside you find yourself transported into a world of dirt, cans, sweat, sunburns, crowds, music, and boredom.
The first initial awe of everything is nice, you see familiar faces and say hello, you carry on conversations with people you had in class but never really got to talk to. But, after that flash of happiness and enlightenment into the world of dages, you just start to stand around with the people you came with; these are normally the people you see on a day to day basis, especially if you happen to live with them. So you obviously love spending time with the people you came with but like I said before, you see them all the time and there's nothing really new or interesting to talk about or experience.
Sometimes there's a saving grace and something happens, but there's also a chance that nothings going to happen. So, basically daging, in my experience, is when you get all dressed up, get some pictures, and then stand around for hours. This is why I've never understood the love for dage season, I would much rather be doing something else with my time.
