Why Do People's Egos Have To Get In The Way?

3

I’m not sure about your membership standards, but the ones for my fraternity are set to ensure that I am a well-rounded, responsible, caring individual. Having this in my arsenal, I look around and sometimes wonder why more people within the community don’t seem to share this idea.I’m not asking you to take the clothes off your back and give them to the homeless man who stands on 10th and 4th, but I am asking for a little more compassion. We are philanthropic organizations at our core, so why is it so hard for us to be nice? The letters we wear were intended to remind us of how great we are as an organization. They were not intended for us to act elitist. Just because you’re in a fraternity or sorority doesn’t mean you roll in Queen Bey’s clique, so step off your high horse.

You do good work, but there were awesome members before you and there will (hopefully) be awesome members after you. Take my advice to heart: Do something to earn your right to wear letters. Remember, there is a whole alphabet and it’s not just your chapter.
If you want the community to do good things for you, then do good things for the community. I want you to succeed as much as you want to succeed. This is because I’m a nice person, for the most part. Try it sometime.
