Why I Do Not Like Politics

They say to never discuss politics, but here's my point of view

I remember when I was in high school; we would learn about government as part of our social studies curriculum. When we started that unit, I couldn’t have been less interested. The terms, ideals and history behind it don’t interest me whatsoever. It’s important to have a strong government, but in the end the country is still in trillions of dollars in debt, people are still homeless and hungry and people are still drowning in six-figure student loans.

It wasn’t until this upcoming race for the White House that I actually started to take note of things floating around in the news. The previous election in 2012, I was underage to vote so I was just casting my imaginary vote that didn’t matter. Now that I’ve paid attention to what’s going on, I’ve noticed that it has turned into a circus. I’ve always been told never to discuss politics, but I’m writing this article to discuss why I don’t like them period.

I rarely watch the news as it is, but in the past few weeks I have been hearing nothing but political updates and what not. I see political campaign commercials that interrupt my very strict viewing schedule of Big Brother. These campaign commercials are terrible. Hillary Clinton’s commercials bash Donald Trump. Donald Trump’s commercials bash Hillary Clinton. At this point I don’t even want to listen to either one of their broadcasts. A lot of it deals with talking about what the other party is doing wrong, and how if he or she is elected into the White House, will counteract those plans. At this point I don’t even know which candidate wants to mandate what because they’re too busy bashing each other. It seems like flipping a quarter is a more ideal way to choose my vote than weighing my pros and cons. I want to hear their plans as an honest and truthful leader, not a full-of-themselves, lying politician.

I will admit that I have expressed where my political views sway in the past. I know I shouldn’t have but my opinion just got the best of me. I also admit that I do not necessarily agree with others’ views, but I will never look at someone differently because he or she chooses to vote one way or the other. No matter what you say or believe there is always going to be that one person who will go back at you in a heartbeat; and sometimes it can get pretty ugly.

With this 2016 race for the White House, I have honestly seen the worst come out in people. It is extraordinary. A huge thing I’ve seen is the scandals on this side and the scandals on that side; the poor terminology on this side and the poor terminology on that side. It seems like more of a joke than a presidential race. It makes me extremely disappointed in how some people are acting toward this “executive” branch of government. No matter how you vote, it’s going to be wrong and there are some strong people that will come after you for that. I just hope that one day this country “turns a 180” to make it a better and safer place.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
