“Sorry for the double post, but…”
“I know this is my second post today…”
“Two posts in one day, I’m a savage.”
I’ve seen Instagram captions begin with these phrases hundreds of times, and I’m still confused. Why do millennials apologize to their followers for posting more than once a day on Instagram? Did my book of rules get lost in the mail when I made my account in high school?
Am I supposed to be offended by a person’s “excessive” virtual photo sharing? What if somebody had a really cool day and couldn’t decide which picture captured the moment best?
Do they sit down with two pics in front of them and say, “I have two beautiful selfies before me, but only one picture in my hands. Only one of you can be…my next Instagram post.”
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t necessarily want my feed consumed by 25 nearly-identical duck-faced selfies because at the end of the day I made this account to look at pictures of cats. But I probably won’t assume that you’re a narcissistic troll if you post two pictures in one day.
So why the apologies? Do some people genuinely believe that their virtual pics are a burden on their followers (who you know…follow them willingly) should they exceed one per day? Or is it just another weird social trend I missed the memo for?
To my followers: sorry not sorry about the multiple pictures of my pets, but are you really that offended?
If you're reading this and you have put this as a caption on one of your photos, help me out. I need answers.
Sincerely,
Not A Very Hip Millennial
