I'll give you the easy answer: I like to write.
Though, I feel like it may be a bit more than that. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Anyways, you're probably thinking that I had some sort of life-changing calling to write and I decided to develop said calling by joining a team of students who are roughly my age and attend the same college as I do and all that.
But no.
I decided to join because I like to write.
I decided to become a "writer" back in 2013, when a friend of mine, who is now an established writer, inspired me to do so, since, growing up, I had always had a love for art/drawing, and writing would provide me with another medium to create anything.
However, throughout high school, I allowed my passion of art and writing die a bit, all in favor of focussing entirely on my academic studies. Now, that isn't bad. Academics are always important, but it becomes a problems when you let your academics consume who you are and allow it to destroy what you hold dear in your heart. Subsequently, I struggled a lot, because it was really embarrassing for me to call myself a "writer" when there were people I knew who had been writing (and reading) since they were young, thus making any hopes I held seem pathetic (to me at least).
However, in my first semester of college, I took an Intro to Creative Writing course. Here it was that I decided to take my passions seriously and help them grow. My love for art and writing never died completely, I just left them on life support for so long. In this course, I made a couple of friends who were on the Odyssey team, and I would see and read their articles on Facebook whenever they shared them. I took interest in them, and it wasn't until I read my friend Lauren's article on why people should write for the Odyssey that I decided I'll take the chance and join.
Being in the Creative Writing course, planning to major in English and minor in Creative Writing, and a member of my school's Poetry Club, my writing was definitely improving. Slowly, but it was. And I figured, "Why not join the Odyssey? It could be fun."
So I guess to wrap it up, I can say that i decided to join because I feel like it could be fun for me, a great experience for me to share my thoughts on various matters, and a way for my writing to grow even further in a way that isn't purely creative.
So yeah. If you made it this far, congrats! You didn't die of boredom. If you'd like, we can see where I go from here together.
Expect articles, maybe some photos, anything pertaining to my interests/life, and the occasional dank meme.
