I've never understood why people feel as though giving someone else a compliment will somehow take one away from themselves. It sounds ridiculous, but trust me, it's a real thing. You can turn someone's entire day around just by telling them that you like their shirt or that you think they're hysterical. It's also important to remember that calling someone else pretty doesn't make you any less beautiful.
If you ever watch the way someone's face changes when you compliment them, you'll be inclined to continue doing so. I wholeheartedly believe that it's easier to find the good in others than it is to find things that you like about yourself. Since it's so simple to find aspects you like about others' personalities, why not share it with them?
By complimenting others, you hold the power to make them happy. Shouldn't you always want to make others happy? Don't you want other people to make you happy?
We live in a world where judgements are made in every possible way. By reassuring people that their personalities and their appearances are just fine, you are enforcing the fact that they are doing something right. If we start to realize how we can positively impact people by simply saying "I love your outfit," we will be further encouraged to continue complimenting people, and there will be many more happy people who are likely to spread kindness.
