After a great holiday season, it is time to head back to college. Although I am super excited to return to campus, I find myself already missing my beautiful home that is Columbus, Ohio. I didn't realize how much of this city I took for granted until I left for college. I wouldn't change my college decision, but I definitely will be counting all of the blessing Columbus has to offer. There are so many things to do and so much pride that fills the air. I am so happy I grew up in this city and wouldn't have it any other way.
We have been ranked as the third happiest city in the United States! We have various museums such as the best hands-on science museum known as COSI. We are also a strong academic city since we are the home of THE Ohio State Buckeyes, one of the best universities in the country! Even though I am not attending THE Ohio State University, I still consider myself a Buckeye at heart. I came home to the Shoe (Ohio Stadium) to watch our Buckeyes have another outstanding season and beat that team up north! The atmosphere in the Shoe is unreal and almost surreal because Columbus is home to the best fans in the land.
Columbus is also home to the Columbus Blue Jackets who have been having an outstanding season, beating some of the greatest hockey teams. Almost every game was sold out, and the loyal Jackets' fans were able to witness one of their best seasons yet. This year they had 16 consecutive victories.
We not only have amazing sports teams. Columbus also has one of the largest zoos. In the winter, they light up the entire zoo with thousands of beautiful lights. The area is filled with diverse exhibits and even a water park!
We can't forget about all the great food Columbus has to offer. Downtown there is a great area called the Short North that consists of some of the best cafes and restaurants. You can order a fancy coffee with a feathered design or you can stop by a restaurant and order some of the best tacos you've ever had. If you want something a little different, there is also the North Market. Inside there are tons of vendors with different kinds of food and drinks. You can get one of the best smoothies ever here.
Even though Columbus is landlocked, we do have Alum Creek. It is a small lake where you can kayak or drive your boat. There are even little beaches and plenty of trails to walk. Even though it is not always warm like the beach, it is a beautiful area to explore.
The city is always alive with concerts, musicals, plays, restaurants, parades, you name it! Everyone has so much pride for Columbus, especially the sports fans. There is always something new to do and places to explore. I would not want to call any other place my home.
