If you don't like country music, I would suggest you're living life wrong and that you and I would probably not get along. If you do like and listen to country music then you have probably heard of Cody Johnson, a rodeo lovin', Texas dwelling, guitar playing, amazingly blessed singer who first came to the light in the beginning of 2014 after his album, "Cowboy Like Me" landed on the Top 10 of the Billboard Country Albums Chart.
This guy is one of a kind, and I mean that in terms of the new kind of country that is being laid out there today. Which is some Taylor Swift bologna. A side from being a great song-writer, he can really belt it out.
Another thing I love about Cody, is his ability to shy away from the main-stream pop country and write what he knows and where his life has taken him. He doesn't write about what he thinks people want to hear, and that's the exact reason why he has easily become one of my favorite artists to listen to.
One of my favorite songs by him, "The Grandpa Song", really speaks true to his ability to write honest and true music. He talks of his grandfather, which from the lyrics of the song, it is very easily to tell how fond of his granddad he is. Basically, he addresses the feelings that his grandfather would probably feel if he were still here today, in this world, being everything that it is.
Listening to all of his songs, honestly brings me a great peace. He is real, and honest, which is what I appreciate from an artist. I'm not from Texas, and I haven't ever been there, but I absolutely love the way he expresses his gratitude of where he came from. It gives you an idea of his background and why he writes and portrays his music the way he does.
Along side his awesome songwriting skills, hes an awesome entertainer on the stage. He rocks, and he damn sure rolls his way all over the stage, gripping the audience in an inclusive and explosive performance. Also, he sounds just as amazing, if not better live than he does on tape. Now that's what I call talent.
Most of all, what I really would like to say to this talented artist, is thank you. You have shown me a whole new world of country music that I cna appreciate and actually enjoy listening to. You have made me want to explore other realms of music and discover everything that red dirt country has to offer. So, thank you Cody Johnson, you have blessed my ear drums.
