Christmas time is the time for Christmas music, family, friends, and presents. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in the greatest possible ways. Across the United States, people celebrate all different kinds of holidays, including Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Christmas time motivates us to be happy while studying for finals and gives us motivation to get through them.
It brings us together with our families.
One of the best things about Christmas, for me personally, is getting to see my extended family. While some family members I get to see all the time, it is great to see family members who live far and to catch up on everything going on in everyone's lives. Even when times are tough during the Christmas season, when Christmas actually comes, all our worries disappear (even if it's only for a little while) when we are sitting with our family around the Christmas table and opening presents with them as well.
It is finally time for that joyful Christmas music.
We all know that as soon as the day ends on Thanksgiving, the Christmas music begins, officially making it the best time of the year: Christmas time. Usually when studying for finals or finishing up papers, to get my stress levels down I turn on some Christmas music and try to make the stressful last week of fall semester a little less brutal.
The decorations are automatic mood boosters.
When we see decorated houses as we come home for winter break, we can't help but smile at all the beautifully decorated lights that light up all the streets. Although they may be obnoxious, we can't help but feel a sense of home when we see those inflatable snowmen and Santa Clauses up on lawns as well.
It gives us a sense of community.
Whether you are on your college campus, at your church, or just walking down the streets of New York City, the Christmas spirit can be felt by everyone around us, making us feel we are part of a community that cherishes the Christmas spirit. It is hard to feel alone during the Christmas season. Giving back to the community is also a huge part of the holiday season. Whether it be toys for underprivileged children, or even food for a family who can't afford to have a real Christmas dinner makes all the difference.
The happiness doesn't end when Christmas ends.
There is a whole new year to look forward to and New Year's Eve never disappoints. It's so exciting making new resolutions for ourselves and making sure we actually pursue them (like my failed attempts at going on a diet for my New Year's resolution for the past two years).
Whatever you are celebrating this holiday season, it is so hard to be unhappy even during stressful times. Christmas time brings light to our lives and allows us to look forward to the promise we have for the upcoming year.
