Why Christmas Is My Least Favorite Holiday

I'm sorry I'm a Grinch but, I can't stand the holiday season.

Why Christmas Is My Least Favorite Holiday

Thanksgiving is over and Winter Break is right around the corner. There are tall trees and Christmas lights going up, and everyone is walking around humming Christmas songs. This is one of the most exciting parts of the season for most people, but not for grinches like me.

Now, for me, winter is the all-time worst season ever. Sure, the snow can be great for Snapchat stories and Instagram posts, but rarely will you ever see me enjoy being out in the cold. The occasional day comes when all I want to do is build snow forts and go sledding, then your parents make you shovel the driveway in below freezing weather, and it ruins your whole day. Who would actually enjoy not being able to feel your fingertips and getting snow down your pants every time you go outside?

Some people get way too hyped up for Christmas way too early. People will start decorating for the holidays the day after Halloween, while Thanksgiving doesn’t even get a chance. Every time I log onto Twitter, I will see retweets from a Christmas countdown account. I get that people are excited to celebrate, but after a month of counting down to Christmas, when it’s not even December yet, it gets a tad bit annoying.

Every time Christmas rolls around, my phone is blowing up with texts like "what do you want for Christmas?" and every time I never know what to say. The most annoying thing, though, is when someone asks you what you want and you tell them, and then you ask them what they want and they have no idea what to say. I’m trying to get my Christmas shopping done just like everyone else, and you are being no help at all.

Christmas is everywhere, there’s no escaping it. Every radio station you turn on, every store you enter, every corner you turn. Christmas music, Christmas lights, Santa, reindeer, little elves everywhere. It’s like a horror movie where a big, fat, jolly old man breaks into your house and leaves gifts for you without making a single noise.

The worst part about Christmas is that it’s known as the giving season, everyone is in the “holiday spirit” and feels the need to give back. Why can’t we give back all year? Why does the feeling to give back only come once a year? I understand that you can’t always give back and do what you want, but the people we are giving back to need things the 11 other months of the year, too.

Christmas is a great holiday and it brings people a lot of joy, and I’m not saying I won’t listen to Christmas music and drive around to see lighted houses with my friends. I have been a grinch since I could remember and Christmas has always been my least favorite holiday along with the Fourth of July (which calls for a whole other article), but I had a great Independence Day this year by just throwing myself into it and making the best out of it. So, that’s my plan for Christmas as well. I’m going to go all out and enjoy every ounce of Christmas this year has to offer me, except for the cold weather. I will never enjoy winter. Ever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
