Why I Chose IUPUI

It wasn't my first choice, but thankfully it was my final one.

Why I Chose IUPUI

Choosing IUPUI wasn't extremely easy for me. I had wanted to go to Ball State since I was in 6th grade, but at the time I was a nursing major. Having so many hospitals around IUPUI made it clear which school would benefit me more. It was still hard to say IUPUI was where I wanted to go because BSU benefited me more financially and it was the school that I had always wanted to go to. I toured IUPUI and that was what made my decision. I immediately fell in love with the location and the feel of the school. When I changed my major to psychology, I realized how much happier I felt not only about my future but about my school of choice. I didn't always feel that way, though. Ball State was still in the back of my mind so I told myself I would go to IUPUI for a year and possibly transfer to BSU.

The opportunities I have had and the friends I made were what made me decide I would be returning to IUPUI. I joined the Student Activities Programming Board (SAPB), started writing for the Odyssey, had the opportunity to volunteer through a class, and so much more. SAPB gave me an amazing group of people to meet with at least once a week while allowing me to improve my leadership and organizational skills through helping with different events. I had wanted to write for the Odyssey but didn't put in an application until I got to IUPUI. Now our team is rebuilding and growing, which leaves so much room for us to make this team what we want it to be. Lastly, I have been volunteering my whole life. I love helping others and getting to volunteer through a class was an amazing experience for me, because I had never done anything like that.

All in all, IUPUI wasn't my first choice, but I'm glad it was my final choice. After my first semester I knew that this was the school I wanted to be at. I knew IUPUI was where I belong. I can't wait to see what the rest of my college journey brings my way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
