"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THAT GUY IS GOING TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY IF HE GETS ELECTED" is usually how those types of conversations go... There is no reason for me to waste my breath arguing with someone who is going to shove their ideas so far down my throat that I don't even get to speak or throw my point out there. This is the most important, and one of many reasons I choose to not discuss politics.
Another, being that people will completely end a friendship if you are a liberal, and they are a conservative, disregarding any of the great times you may have had together. Politics is just a battlefield of ideas. Social media has brought a brand new form of political idiotic-ness with the fact that there are those who think that sharing their choice of a candidates memes or TYPING IN ALL CAPS TO SOMEONE ABOUT WHO THEY THINK IS THE CORRECT FIT FOR PRESIDENT is counted as a vote in any way; or that just because you get extremely angry over the computer with someone who may disagree with you will get them to change their mind on who they are voting for. People on social media may not also realize that whatever they may be resharing is not an actual credible person, or site to get it from. It is so easy to take a video of someone, and rearrange words, or crop it so they say something that was misconstrued, or not intended in that way. Talking about politics over social media may be the worst way to get your point across. That includes: sharing gifs, memes, and pictures on your facebook page. Why? Because people who see it, and disagree with you may hate you, and just unfriend you with no reason beyond that of your choice of who you are voting for. Or, maybe if you are looking for a job and an employer you wanted to hire you saw it, and thought "Hmm.. never mind, they're voting for someone I don't like." No matter what, it is a lose-lose situation.
Not speaking about politics in public, with family, or friends should be a rule. For a while, I thought it was just an unspoken rule, but then this election changed the whole entire game. I am not saying you can not have your opinion, but if someone does not want to talk about it, don't shove it down their throats. I truly believe in not discussing politics anywhere, just for the safety of myself. I'm not saying I will get killed for it, but some people are so extreme in their views they get fired up trying to argue their point, and chose to not just change your views but say some rude things to you whilst doing so. No matter who you chose there are people who are not going to be happy with your decision, so just save yourself the anger, and don't talk about it at all. Honestly, half of you don't even know what you're talking about anyway...
