There are two kinds of people in the world. Cat people and dog people. While myself and many others love all things furry, to some of us there is no question that felines are the best animal and companion that one can have. Cats or dogs is a never-ending debate but here is a list to shine some light on our beloved furry, sassy pals.
1. Curious and smart.
Cats are extremely curious animals. Not to mention they are intelligent. Cats can figure out most situations and leave you questioning how they did it. Cats even only meow to get humans attention not to communicate with each other.
Fun Fact: several studies have shown that cat owners are generally smart than dog owners.
2. Their Character.
Cats have a ton of character. For such small animals they have huge personalities. Cats are queens/kings of sass, you never know what they're going to do next. Part of there unique personalities can probably be attricuted to the fact they were once viewed as "gods." Cats seem to know this as they still expect to be treated like royalty.
3. Low maintenance.
Cats are easy to take care of. They need a litter box and food and besides that you are good to go. Lets not forget that when you go out of town you do not have to board a cat either, get a self feeder and your cat will be good and cost you no money while you are gone. Not to mention an empty box is their favor bed.
4. No obedience class.
Cats get into trouble but often not near the trouble that dogs find themselves in.
5. Nine lives.
Cats have a very long life and they have nine of them making them true life long companions. Cats life spans variety on their breed but typically almost all cats are predicted to live over 12 years some even up to 22+.
6. Not an attention whore.
Cats love to cuddle and love to be loved on. However, cats love their personal space and alone time as much as we do.
7. No begging.
Dogs are relentless when it comes to food, however, cats generally will let you eat your meal in peace.
8. Less messy than dogs.
Dogs slobber everywhere, track dirt and water all through the house and occasionally will use the bathroom in your house. Cats groom themselves, use the litter box and hardly cause any mess at all.
9. Less expensive.
Cats do not require as many things as dogs. Cats do not need lots of toys, they're just as happy with a ball of yarn as anything you could by them. Generally cats are much smaller than dogs making feeding them cheaper. ASPCA released a statement calming a cat would cost you around $300 a year where a dog would be $800 or even higher. Cats also leave a smaller carbon foot-print than dogs, so if saving the environment is important a cat is your best bet!
10. Cats are great for your health.
The health benefits are countless. Being a cat owner can lower your chance of cardiovascular disease, heart attack, decrease the probability of one developing allergies. They can also improve your immune system, along with being able to sense when you are likely to become sick, cats offer you comfort and it helps you recover quickly. They also can reduce ones risk of having a stroke or having high cholesterol.
11. Cats purr.
There are few sounds more calming than a cats purr. It makes you feel relaxed and loved. Plus an added bonus is it just makes them so darn cute.
12. Cats calm you down.
Cats reduce your stress and anxiety. Spending time with a cat produces a chemical in your brain called serotonin that helps you to feel happy and relaxed. How could those little furry faces and cute petite paws not make you feel better after a long day?
Cats make great life long companions. While they have strong personalities and can be extremely sassy you will never find a better friend than a cat.
