6 Reasons My Brother Is My Best Friend
Allie Martin

I don't know about all the rest of you peeps but my little brother is the best. So here are just a few of the things that have made this little stinker one of the best friends I have ever had:

1. He has to keep all my secrets.

Now, I like to think that he would do this no matter what, but because of all the stuff I have on him he also has to keep my secrets. I will always have someone to spill the beans to and I will always be able to count on the fact that he will never tell a soul. It's lovely.

2. He is the only person that completely understands our family.

Sure, one day I'll have a husband that's around my family a lot and sure I've had friends who know them very well, but my brother is the only one that will ever really get what I mean when I start complaining about small family bickerings. He's lived with them and he knows them just like I do.

3. He has loved me through the worst.

He was there when our family went through rough patches. He told me I looked pretty during middle school. He laughed when I held him down and farted on him. He stood up for me during family arguments. He held me after bad breakups. He dealt with me through my worst periods and the sassy teenage years. We've been through it all....and he still loves me.

4. He protects me.

Whether that be from spiders or asshole guys or wearing the something that makes me look fat, my brother has always got my best interests at heart and will do whatever he has to do to protect them.

5. He constantly shows me love.

His whole life, he never once declined to say "I love you". It didn't matter if he was surrounded by his friends when I dropped him off at basketball practice if I said it to him he said it back. He hugs me and shows me affection in public places and he has never cared what anyone thought about his love for his big sister.

6. He gets me.

He understands my sense of humor. He thinks my jokes are funny. He knows everything that has happened to me and how it molded me into who I am. He gets my reasoning. He knows my beliefs. He knows what my favorite foods are and what foods I hate. He understand not to talk to me in the morning and that I would rather sit up to watch a movie than lay down. He gets me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
