It’s no secret that Bradley University is a small campus. We may be smaller in numbers, but we have a sense of unity that you can’t find anywhere else. There are a total of 21 fraternities and sororities on Bradley’s Campus. Each has their own philanthropy weeks in which they host events to raise money for the causes they care about. Not to mention that Bradley University’s Greek life stands together against certain issues such as sexual assault and inequality. Overall, Bradley University’s Greek life is one of the best around. It is known for its continuous service to the community, academic achievement, and prevalence on Bradley’s campus.
More than 1,400 students are involved in Bradley University Greek life. This makes up about 33 percent of Bradley’s population. The fraternities and sororities on Bradley’s campus work hard to include students who don’t decide to go Greek as well. Events such as AEPI’s Rock The Block, Kappa Delta’s Shamrock Week 5K, and SK’s Taco Dinner allow non-Greek students participate in Greek life while making a difference. The Greek community also participates in the welcome week service on Saturday event every year in order to reach out and support the Peoria community.
Bradley University is all about being a unified campus. Greek Week is a week full of fun activities that fraternities and sororities look forward to every year. It focuses is to bring all of the Greek houses together for some friendly competition. Panfrasing and the Greek games are just a couple of the events hosted throughout the week that create unity amongst all of the houses on campus. Every year, the Greek community helps the freshmen move into their dorms. This gives them a chance to get to know the new students and show them what Greek life is all about; giving back to others. Every sorority and fraternity also hosts a Greek block party where students can come grab some free food, play games, and interact with the Greek community. This is a time to welcome new students to the campus and interact with one another.
The Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council have also made an impact on Greek life. They have amended their bylaws in order to better protect our campus. The Interfraternity Council has proposed the idea that fraternities attend a sexual assault awareness workshop before hosting their first exchange. The Panhellenic Council has implemented a bystander intervention workshop for women to attend in order to learn how to defend themselves before they attend co-host exchange as well. The Panhellenic Council also hosted an all-sorority bake sale this year to raise money for the Circle Of Sisterhood, which works to break down barriers to education for young girls. The Greek community also celebrates empowered women by hosting the International Women’s Week. This promotes equality across Bradley’s campus.
Each house has something wonderful to offer to Bradley University. Bradley University’s smaller campus size gives students a sense of community and a home away from home. Within the Bradley bubble is the Greek community that works hard to include everyone in their activities. In my sorority, I have found a second home where I feel comfortable enough to be myself, expand my leadership skills, and find friendships that will last a lifetime. Every fraternity and sorority on Bradley’s campus has their own unique brotherhood or sisterhood that helps them to make an impact on our campus and within the community. We may be small, but we’re definitely mighty.
