I had always heard girls talk about how their boyfriends were their best friends, and I thought I had also experienced that before, but now I know for sure. My boyfriend is absolutely my best friend. If I could spend every minute of every day with him, I absolutely would. I know there are some girls that look down on that, as though you are choosing a man over your friends or family, but I don't see it that way.
When he is your best friend, you see him as any other best friend. He is someone that I never want to lose, and someone that I can be completely myself with. When you truly become best friends with your boyfriend, it is the most amazing thing ever, and here is why:
1. Our connection is at a very deep level.
We know everything about each other yet still love each other. We don't judge—too much—and we encourage each other through everything. He makes me laugh harder than I ever have, that laugh that makes my stomach hurt and my heart happy. We are both so sarcastic and sassy to each other, and it is the best thing ever. We can talk about anything and everything with each other and it will never get old.
2. He chooses me over sleep (sometimes).
There are nights when we talk on the phone for hours, way past when we should. We always know when the other person really needs someone to talk to, or just someone to help end their day on a happy note. When you are as close as best friends, that is what you do for each other.
3. I can look completely gross in front of him and not care.
Just like with most of my girlfriends that I am very close to, I could be wearing sweats, no makeup, and not have showered for two days, and not even care what they think. The same goes for my boyfriend. When you become best friends you feel completely comfortable with that person.
4. I can send him the most insanely goofy and ugly selfies ever.
Snapchat streaks are where it's at, and at a certain point taking cute selfies are no longer needed. Your life slowly becomes a contest of who can Snap the craziest, ugliest selfies, who can leave the weirdest pictures of themselves on the other's phone when they're in the bathroom, and who can post the most screenshots of these horrors on social media.
5. He knows my bad side and I know his.
He knows that sometimes, I am so stubborn that I won't back down even if I have a feeling I might be wrong. And I know that he like to antagonize me when I am definitely not in the mood. Even though we know these things about each other, we still love each other and just slowly learn how to accept these bad sides along with all of the good.
6. I can dance and sing in the car and he won't judge me (that much).
OK, I lied, he definitely judges me. But then again, what friend wouldn't judge you when you're scream rapping along to some Eminem and throwing your arms around in the middle of the freeway during a traffic standstill?
7. Splitting food and the bill is never awkward.
I eat his fries, he tries very hard to pretend that he doesn't care. Plus, who wants to have to pay for dates every single time? Splitting the bill is great for everyone, that's what most best friends do anyway. Sharing is caring, people!
8. He calms me down.
You know when you're so close to someone that even the sound of their voice can bring a wave of peace and calm over you? That's what it's like when your boyfriend is your best friend. You could have the most terrible day full of drama and homework, but the second they call and say they love you, everything feels better.
9. I get to wear his clothes.
I get to keep all the t-shirts that are too small for him, I steal his hoodie, I kept all of his Navy blouses to wear around the house. Unlike with girlfriends, boys don't usually notice very quickly if you steal their clothes—or keep them for months—so feel free to take a shirt sometimes. That's what friends are for.
10. We watch TV shows together.
You know you've become best friends when your TV shows start to rub off on him. My boyfriend has watched "Friends", "Gossip Girl", and "How to Get Away With Murder" with me, and he will even talk about them with me afterward. In return, I watch "Arrow", "The Flash," and some super action-packed movies that may not always be my first choice. That is true friendship when you love each other enough to watch something that you may have absolutely zero interest in.
11. I can see him growing old with me.
With most of my other best friends, I know I will have them in my life for a very long time to come. I feel that way, but stronger, with my boyfriend. I could see him being in my life forever, growing old while I make fun of his gray hair that is balding and he makes fun of my wrinkles that I hate. Best friends all the way.
You want to find the happiest, most fun, craziest, goofiest, full of love friendship that you can find with the person that you fall in love with. You want a man who will love you, speak highly of you to others, will let you cry with them, will hold you during the bad times and encourage you through the good. You want your relationship to have passion, love, comfort, and someone who will be a fool with you. When your boyfriend is your best friend you find all of these things. Definitely #relationshipgoals.
